Susan Fitzell What does Susan Fitzell do? Bottom line: I provide strategies and solutions to address challenges teachers face. I'm not about theory. I'm all about researched based, best practice, "What can I use in my classroom today?" strategies Who is Susan Fitzell? Susan Fitzell, M. Ed, has been touching lives in public schools and beyond since 1980. As a mother, teacher, and martial artist, Susan has over two decades of experience identifying and meeting the needs of youth, especially those with special needs, students with behavioral and anger management issues, and students who experience bullying. Susan's work focuses on building caring, inclusive school communities and helping students and teachers succeed in the inclusive classroom. • M.Ed., Antioch New England Graduate School, 1996. Primary focus was the implementation of Conflict Education and its relationship to stages of child development. • B.A., Rivier College, 1980, majored in Education with a minor in General Special Needs. • Certified Peer Mediation Trainer of Trainers –school peer mediation training • Certified in the State of New Hampshire in Elementary Education, General Special Needs and Specific Learning Disabilities Susan is a dynamic, nationally recognized presenter and educational consultant specializing in special education topics, co-teaching, bullying prevention, adolescent anger management, and practical strategies to increase achievement of ALL students in ALL classrooms. Susan's motto is, "Good for all, critical for students who learn differently." With years of experience co-teaching in the general education classroom, Susan possesses a unique understanding of the challenges facing co-teachers and paraprofessionals, and has spent her teaching life developing tools for both child and teacher success. Motherhood has helped her identify with the needs of parents and help them find the best ways to help their children with homework and other critical issues. Susan's greatest satisfaction comes from helping teachers make a positive impact using practical, doable strategies that fuel positive, measurable results. Whether she's doing a one day workshop or long-term consulting, Susan's straight forward, common sense approach always yields positive results.

Understanding the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act and Section 504
The Impact on Students with LD and AD/HD The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) was passed by Congress in December 2008 and became effective January 1, 2009. This significant piece of legislation corrected what Congress considered to be a departure from the intent of the original ADA (passed in 1990) brought about by several narrow interpretations of the law through Supreme Court rulings. These rulings weakened the law and made it difficult for people with disabilities to receive the protection the law intended.
