The Washington State Branch of the International Dyslexia Association invites you to . . . Walk in the Shoes of a Dyslexic Learner

Walk in the Shoes of a Dyslexic Learner

Kohlwes Education Center

300 SW 7th Street, Renton

January 24, 2007 - 7PM

This interactive workshop will lead participants through a sequence of 5 activities to simulate for non-dyslexic people multi-sensory experiences common to dyslexic learners.

Participants rotate among five learning stations which simulate various classroom learning activities and workplace tasks.

Station 1 simulates a beginning reading problem.

Station 2 simulates a visual-motor and writing task problem.

Station 3 simulates a fine motor problem on a written task.

Station 4 simulates a visual perception and processing problem.

Station 5 simulates a hearing problem

Facilitated discussion after completing each station activity enhances the learning for participants.

By feeling as if you are “in the shoes” of a dyslexic learner, educators can move beyond theoretical to a more complete understanding from the student’s perspective.  All participants take away from the workshop a fuller appreciation of the frustrations that dyslexic children feel in school on a daily basis.

Space is limited to 50 participants.  Register today by calling 206-382-1020 or emailing  info@wabida.org.

This simulation will be offered on February 28th at the Shoreline Center.
